Owner Sandy Morden remembers what it was like growing up on a 200 acre dairy farm.
"We grew all our own feed for the animals, the old fashioned way.
Every spring we harvested maple syrup from a maple bush on the back of our farm. We had our own gardens, grew our own beef, pork, and chickens, and produced eggs and maple syrup. We grew up on raw milk. We prided ourselves on sustainable farming practices, and had a strong connection between farming and our food chain. However, in the farming world, it was a known fact that animals for family consumption and market animals could sometimes lead very different lives."
After Sandy left school she pursued a career in the accounting field, which in hindsight provided a great foundation for being self employed. She also began to study nutrition while attending a private college in Mississauga. Sandy has spent 20 years bringing the two together, for the benefit of her loyal customer base. For personal health reasons, Sandy has maintained a gluten-free and dairy-free diet for over two decades.
Sandy is devoted to supplying meat and other products of superior quality. She has handpicked a small group of local farmers who share that devotion to raising livestock, the old fashioned way, with methods that strictly control the feed and environment of the animals. Sandy visits the farms to ensure her strict standards are being met. Morden’s Organic Farm Store operates on a beautiful heritage farm located in Ontario’s famous greenbelt
, a large section of land designated as farmland.
Determined to carry on the healthy tradition of this natural real estate tradition, Sandy is constantly looking to increase the viability of the farm while maintaining its agricultural heritage (6 generations). A handful of select farms have joined the venture.
In the year 2000, we opened a small country store on the farm to service the local area and called it Morden’s Organic Farm Store.
More than just meat
It isn’t just the meat, fish & poultry that keeps our customers coming back.
We have a selection of jams, preserves, fruits, maple syrup and honeys, and cheese, butter, eggs (chicken, duck, goose, turkey), yogurt and kefir. In season we offer a great selection of salad greens, including lettuce, arugula and spinach, also rhubarb.
Our pasture raised, organically fed chicken and duck eggs are from our own farm or from local Mennonite farms.
It's always fun to visit our mini barn to see the animals.
Our child friendly environment

page for more pictures and details.
At our farm store, shopping takes place in a century old barn renovated into a quaint country store. Our farm is equipped to entertain and educate children of all ages, about rural living and animals. While parents can browse in a relaxed atmosphere as in days gone by, the children can play farm in our mini sand barn or ride our mini tractors. We have a lively assortment of farm animals, including horses, goats, donkeys, sheep, chickens, ducks, turkeys, pheasants, geese, exotic birds, rabbits, chinchillas, guinea pigs. These attractions are available all year round. Please be advised that, other than in the mini-barn viewing area, the animal paddocks have electric fencing.
2 pounds (or more) of bones from Morden’s
2 chicken feet for extra gelatin (optional)
2 tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar
1 onion, rough chopped
2 carrots, rough chopped
2 stalks of celery, rough chopped
1 TB or more of sea salt, 1 tsp peppercorns, additional herbs or spices to taste. 2 cloves of garlic, 1 bunch of parsley, may be added in the last 30 minutes of cooking.
Roasting raw beef bones greatly improves the flavor. Roast in a roasting pan at 350 F for 30 minutes.
Transfer the bones to a large stock pot, cover with water, add the vinegar. Let sit for 20-30 minutes. The acid in the Apple Cider Vinegar makes the nutrients in the bones more available.
Add onion, carrots and celery. Add salt, pepper, spices, or herbs, if using.
Bring to a vigorous boil, reduce and simmer until done, up to 7 hours.
During the first few hours of simmering, remove the impurities that float to the surface. The foamy layer is easily scooped off with a big spoon. Discard. Check every 20 minutes for the first 2 hours to remove. Morden's grass-fed beef will produce much less foam than conventional animals.
During the last 30 minutes, add garlic and parsley, if using.
Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Strain using a fine metal strainer to remove all bone and vegetable. Cooled broth may be stored in large glass jars in the fridge for up to 5 days, or frozen for later use. Use for soups, sauces and gravy.
